Hypertension causes millions of deaths worldwide. Control is key.
Probiotics may help in several ways:
- Producing peptides from milk proteins which act as angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. These enzymes are important in blood pressure.
- The by-products of probiotics and probiotic cell wall components may play a role in controlling hypertension.
In one study, rats fed diets with yogurt as well as probiotic-supplemented yogurt saw drops in blood pressures as compared to rats consuming only skimmed milk.
